Chief Executive Officer, The Canadian Orthopaedic Association 

Mr. Thomson joined the Canadian Orthopaedic Association (COA) in January 2001 as chief executive officer. Mr. Thomson brings over 20 years of experience in the orthopaedic industry to the Association. Prior to joining the COA, Mr. Thomson spent 14 years with Zimmer Canada. His career at Zimmer began in 1980 as a product manager, then in 1990 he held the position of Director, International Marketing with international responsibility for the marketing and distribution of prosthetic implants. From 1993 to 1995, he held the position of President for Zimmer Canada.

Mr. Thomson later served as president of DePuy Canada for six years. Mr. Thomson also served as Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Orthopaedic Foundation from 2001 to 2007. The Canadian Orthopaedic Association’s vision is to achieve excellence in orthopaedic care for Canadians. The COA is dedicated to professional fulfillment, promoting and providing education for its members and to advocate for national standards. Mr. Thomson is a volunteer and past Board member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dufferin County and lives near Orangeville, ON.

The Arthritis Alliance of Canada ceased its operations at the end of December 2019. This website will be kept live as an archive of all AAC reports, publications and tools until end of February 2025; however, its content won’t be updated.
