In addition to being president of the Canadian Spondylitis Association, Michael is secretary of the Ankylosing Spondylitis International Federation. He represents the Canadian Spondylitis Association as a member of the Steering Committee of the Arthritis Alliance of Canada, as a consumer representative on the Patient Advisory Board of the Ontario Best Practices Research Initiative, and as a member of the Expert Advisory Panel of the National Arthritis Awareness Program.

Michael is a past president and fundraising chair of the Ontario Spondylitis Association, has been a member of the organizing committee of the Arthritis and Autoimmunity Research Centre Foundation’s Day at the Races, as well as a fundraiser for the Salvation Army and Casey House in Toronto. Michael’s volunteer activities started in the early 1990s after he was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis. Michael’s motivation to volunteer came from the ten years it took for his AS to be diagnosed. In 2011, Michael retired from a 35 year banking career with the last years spent in private wealth management.
